Rhaz Oriente
Video still: a carved temple wall breaking into blue and gold light, with the subtitle We saw carvings, remnants of the past

Whispers, 2026, ongoing

Whispers follows the naga across Southeast Asia, where each country tells its story differently. At Tasik Chini in Pahang, the lake is said to have formed when a naga lying in the shape of a log bled after someone struck it, and the garden that stood there sank under the water.

The naga itself does not appear in the video. Built in 3D, it moves through places connected to the stories, such as rivers, temples on cliffs and land now under water. Surfaces break into particles, and at times a structure appears only as a point cloud. Text appears over the images, including the line We saw carvings, remnants of the past.

The work is ongoing. Oriente is developing it into a longer film, with a separate treatment for each region.
