After Hours Atlas: Makati, 2026
After Hours Atlas: Makati was made for Manila Lights, Low Bandwidth Dreams’ presentation at IMMERSIO, which took its cue from Lino Brocka’s Maynila: Sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag (1975). Focusing on Poblacion at night, the work looks at nightlife beyond its association with partying. The district becomes a place of work, waiting, meeting, spending time and moving between places.
Oriente began by mapping places commonly visited at night and observing the activity and circulation around them. Instead of reproducing Poblacion as a conventional map, she translated these locations into a constellation. The geographic positions remain, but the attention shifts from individual places to the connections between them. There are ten constellations, with names such as KEEPING OPEN, BOREDOM, SHADOW LABOR and NIGHT WAGE, and some hang on single points with nothing connecting them. In the animation the names appear one by one, beginning with DESIRE and ending with DRIFT.
