Something Less Than The Whole
2022, mirror, wood, UV ink on acrylic glass, 24 x 36 x 24 in (60.96 x 91.44 x 60.96 cm)
Exhibited: Art Cube Gallery, Dreams from the Abyss group exhibition
In a site-specific piece, Rhaz Oriente contemplates the physical and non-physical properties often associated with objects that produce reflections and visual images, Something Less Than The Whole consists of mirrors that are put adjacent to each other to fit a corner. The mirrored images give an illusion of a circle that is becoming whole by reflecting a fraction of a black printed acrylic glass to achieve a sense of symmetry. Oriente frames how she perceives the world as she casts depictions of fragility and strength, breakage and rebirth.
