The Absence of Light, the Essence of Shadow

2023, UV ink on acrylic glass, 20 x 24 x 5 in (50.8 x 60.96 x 12.7 cm)

Exhibited: In the Shadows of This New World, Club Kino, Makati City (PH)

In Rhaz Oriente’s “The Absence of Light, the Essence of Shadow”, she acquaints the idea of emptiness with the prospect of creativity. The possibilities that come with negative space, and in this instance, an empty gallery corner that playfully contrasts with light and shadows.

Further engaging with the light reflected off of its neighboring artworks (After Private Wilhelm by Corinne de San Jose & Untitled by Gary-Ross Pastrana), this piece welcomes light into the darkness. - I.Sunga
